Thanks to sales of the Redmi Note 4 model, last year Xiaomi became the largest smartphone manufacturer in India. Today, his successor was introduced, along with the “Pro” version, which is the most powerful Redmi Note in history. How do they differ from Redmi Note 4? Is progress visible? Or is it just a new packing with old stuffing?
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 became the best-selling smartphone Xiaomi. In 2017, it was bought by 9,624,110 people, which led to an increase in the popularity of the devices of this Chinese manufacturer. Fans of the brand Xiaomi, finally waited for a successor.
What does Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 offer?
There are three things that need to be said at the very beginning:
- No, Redmi Note 5 does not have NFC;
- No, Redmi Note 5 (in the presented version) does not have LTE B20;
- yes, Redmi Note 5 has a headphone jack.
With this, we figured out, and now we proceed to a small discussion of the specification, which was strongly praised by the host of the Xiaomi conference.
Redmi Note 5 has a screen with a diagonal of 5.99 inches, which displays a picture in Full-HD + resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels). Xiaomi also mentioned the contrast ratio (1000: 1), and that the NTSC color coverage is 83%. Of course, this is a panel with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 (2: 1, if someone likes cuts) that covers the glass 2.5 D. Redmi Note no longer has the backlight of the touch buttons under the display – they are now on the screen.
Inside the metal case, there was a well-known Snapdragon 625 processor with eight cores, with a maximum clock speed of 2 GHz. This system works in a duet with Adreno 506. We have two versions of memory: 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory, as well as 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. The amount of available memory can easily be expanded using a microSD card.
In addition to the display, Xiaomi also decided to change the cameras. The main matrix has a resolution of 12 megapixels. While in RN4 the pixel size was 1.12 microns, in RN5 it is 1.25 microns. This means that the new representative of the Redmi Note line should better cope with all the conditions of poor lighting, although we should not expect a noticeable jump in the quality of the photos.
The front camera received more changes. Here there is a matrix of 5 Mp, which will be supported by a suggestive LED backlight, with a color temperature of 4500k.
Looking at the rest of the specification, it’s safe to say that I’ve already seen this configuration somewhere. Fingerprint reader on the back of the case, LTE, Hybrid Dual SIM, 4000 mAh battery with fast charging, microUSB and Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 9 …
Yes, this is, in essence, Redmi 5 Plus.
- Redmi Note 5 3 GB / 32 GB – 9,999 rupees (about 157 dollars).
- Redmi Note 5 with 4 GB / 64 GB – 11,999 rupees (about 187 dollars).
And now it’s time for a more interesting model.
What can boast Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro?
If you have already started that Xiaomi has not made almost no changes to Redmi Note 5 regarding the venerable Redmi Note 4, then you need to read the version of “Pro”.
And although this version is much better, I hasten to inform you that:
- No, Redmi Note 5 Pro does not have NFC;
- No, Redmi Note 5 Pro (in the presented version) does not have LTE B20;
- yes, Redmi Note 5 Pro has a headphone jack;
- yes, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a dual main camera.
What did he deserve to label “Pro”?
Looking not at the front of the base version and professional, visually it’s hard to tell. Even the screens are the same – in Redmi Note 5 Pro, as in the main “five” is 5.99 inch Full HD + screen, the aspect ratio of 18: 9 and glass 2.5 D. The difference (at least, according to the manufacturer) is manifested in greater contrast display (1000: 1 vs. 1500: 1).
Considering the front panel of the device, you can see that in the Redmi Note 5 Pro is another front camera. And indeed – here was installed a 20-megapixel front camera with LED flash. This is good news for those who love selfie. This camera will also allow you to unlock the phone with the face recognition function. This option will be available as early as March of this year.
There are even more changes on the reverse side of the smartphone: here is a dual camera – 12 megapixels (SONY IMX376 – f / 2.2, pixel size 1.25 microns) and 5 megapixels (f / 2.0, pixel size 1.12 microns). This is the first dual camera that appeared in the device from the Redmi Note series, it is equipped with special software that should help to make better pictures. Video must have digital image stabilization.
Changes also occurred within the new Xiaomi. Redmi Note 5 Pro is the world’s first smartphone with a Snapdragon 636 processor. Although it is characterized by a lower frequency than Snapdragon 625 (1.8 GHz), its design is more modern (Kryo kernels are used, which are usually found only in Snapdragon from series 8xx).
In addition, here we use RAM of the type LPDDR4X (instead of LPDDR3), 4 or 6 GB, that is, we are dealing with the most productive Redmi Note in history. Internal memory is, regardless of version, 64 GB.
- Redmi Note 5 Pro 4 GB / 64 GB – 13,999 rupees (about 218 dollars).
- Redmi Note 5 Pro, 6 GB / 64 GB – 16,999 rupees (about 265 dollars).
Sale of new smartphones will begin on February 22.
