Samsung decided not to delay the presentation of the new Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus before the CES 2018, which will be held in January. Of course, these smartphones will be at this exhibition, but together with this exhibition will immediately begin their sale. Therefore, the South Korean manufacturer has decided this year to introduce new models, even before the Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus fall on store shelves.
Samsung has made some changes. Instead of presenting the successors of the Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) models, the manufacturer decided to change the nomenclature of its offers from the middle shelf. We will not see the Galaxy A5 (2018) – for that we will see Galaxy A8 (2018), and there will be no Galaxy A7 (2018), its place will be occupied by Galaxy A8 Plus (2018). All this was done to make smartphones more associated with the flagships Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
The Galaxy A8 model should like many. Samsung decided to transfer the main characteristics of its flagship model directly to a strong representative of the middle class. This can be seen right away, at the first glance at the front panel of the device: the large screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 for the first time we saw in the Galaxy S8.
A distinctive feature of the Galaxy A8 is a dual front camera, which received a matrix of 16 megapixels and 8 megapixels and aperture f / 1.9. This camera will provide you with great photographic capabilities. For example, thanks to the function of Live Focus, you can switch between the lenses, selecting them to the type of photo. The blurred background effect will be very clear.
The rear camera should also show itself well, since it received a 16 Mp matrix with a f / 1.7 aperture, we expect that the image quality will not be worse than in the Galaxy S8. Fans of video shooting will be happy to learn that the smartphone is equipped with digital image stabilization (VDis), as well as the mode of time-lapse video recording.
In addition, the new representative of the “A” line will be equipped with a number of features of its “older brothers” – Galaxy S8 and S8 +, that is, a function such as Always On Display, waterproof case (with IP68 certificate), support for microSD memory cards (up to 256 GB ), Dual SIM slot, as well as Gear VR glasses support. The smartphone will be available in three colors: black, gold and silver.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is slightly larger than the base version. Their only differences are the screen size, which in A8 Plus is 6 inches, battery capacity (3,500 mAh) and what is pretty obvious, the size of the smartphone. The dimensions of the Galaxy A8 Plus look as follows: 159.9 × 75.7 x 8.3 mm and weighs 191 grams. In addition to the version with 4 GB of operating and 32 GB of internal memory, another version will be available, with 6 GB of operating and 64 GB of internal memory.
Of course, the appearance of the device is a matter of taste, but I have the impression that the A8 2018 and the Plus model, despite the obvious stylistic similarities with the Galaxy S8, will look better from the rear than from the front. The most important factor that plays an important role in making a decision about its purchase is the price.
We already know the European prices and they look like this:
- Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) – 499 euros;
- Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) – 599 euros.
As you can see, it will not be cheap. And what do you think about these smartphones?
