Dell XPS 13 – this is one of my most favorite ultrabooks. All thanks to its sophisticated appearance, it boasts a very thin frame around the screen (Infinity Edge), and its size is much smaller than that of competitors (13.3 inch screen was placed in the case of an 11.6-inch laptop). Today, Dell introduced a new generation of its device, XPS 13 9370, and I’m a bit confused by its evaluation.
All because Dell is another manufacturer who decided to abandon full-sized USB ports (they are present in the previous generation XPS 13) in favor of three USB ports of type C (all with DisplayPort support, and two – Thunderbolt 3). And although I understand that the manufacturer wants to keep up with the times and wants to make its ultrabook as thin as possible (its thickness is 11.6 mm), but the rejection of the standard USB can negatively affect the usability. Unfortunately, the manufacturer also refused the full-size slot for SD cards – here there is only a slot for microSD cards.
This time the laptop will be available in two colors – besides the classic silver-black color, we will also be able to purchase a white model. Although in fact it is a case in the color rose gold with a white middle, and the dark version has a black middle and a silvery outer surface. Of course, in both cases we have a backlit keyboard.
But let’s go back to more important things, that is, to technical parameters. The latest version of Dell XPS 13 works with the latest Intel 8th generation processors – you can buy a laptop with a Core i5-8250U or Core i7-8550U, that is, four eight core stream processors with Intel ultra-hd Graphics 620. There will be 4, 8 or 16 GB of RAM, this is a type of LPDDR3 memory, not LPDDR4. If it comes to internal memory, there will also be several versions: 128 GB M. 2 SATA SSD or 256 GB / 512 GB / 1 TB M. 2 PCIe SSD.
The screen in the new XPS 13, like its predecessors, has a diagonal of 13.3 inches, and the picture will be reflected depending on the version – at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 or 3840 x 2160 pixels (the first one can be touch or not – to choose from) . In any case, the screen is protected by glass Gorilla Glass 4.
The battery has a capacity of 52Wh and provide up to 19 hours of operation. There is also a fingerprint scanner, a 720p camera that stands under the screen, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
What else can the new Dell XPS 13 9370 boast?
Dell can boast that in the new XPS 13, it has applied a new kind of thermal insulation for better distribution and heat dissipation, and therefore to lower the temperature of the enclosure. It’s very good that they did it, because the previous cooling system had some problems with cooling.
Price Dell XPS 13 with the operating system Windows (Home or Pro) starts from $ 1000, and with the system Ubuntu (Linux 16.03 LTS) – from $ 950. Unfortunately, at the moment the prices of individual options are not known. We also do not know when it will appear in our country, I think that we will have to wait about 2-3 months.
