Optane SSD DC P4800X is a good offer for servers and workstations. Now you can choose a more capacious version.
Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X is the first carrier using Optane technology – it was still available only in the 375 GB version, but the manufacturer is working on more capacious versions.
The Intel offer already has a 750 GB version (only in the form of an HHHL expansion card). The manufacturer used here the author’s controller and 3D XPoint bones, and for communication with the computer, the PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface and the NVMe 1.0 protocol are used.
Performance? In principle, no change. Serial transmission reaches 2400 MB / s when reading and 2000 MB / s when writing data, and the number of I / O operations reaches 550,000 IOPS on reading and 500,000 writes. The access time is less than 10 μs.
The Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X in the 750 GB version will cost about 3000 euros. But this is not the end of the manufacturer’s plans, because it also plans to release a 1.5 TB model (its specification has not yet been disclosed). Just right for servers and workstations.
