CAT does not create smartphones for a mass client. His proposals are aimed at professionals working in difficult and difficult conditions, in which additional tools are needed. CAT S60, which was distinguished by the presence of a thermal imaging camera, waited for a successor. This is the CAT S61 model.
The smartphone was equipped with a thermal imaging camera FLIR, which is supported by improved software, it should provide a higher contrast and increase the temperature range to 400 ° C (-20 ° C). Also, the resolution from VGA to HD was increased. Due to this, this device will be useful in the diagnosis of cars, it is also suitable as a tool for monitoring asphalt and equipment with a higher temperature. Another novelty is the ability to transmit live thermal images.
In addition, the CAT S61 can detect indoor air quality, thanks to the high-quality Sensirion sensor. The smartphone will immediately notify the user if it detects that there is a high level of contamination in the room, this will allow it to react quickly (for example, open a window or take a break from work). This sensor also determines the humidity and the current room temperature.
A useful tool, no doubt, is also a laser distance meter with a range of up to 10 meters. User can switch between Metric and English measures. All indications are applied to the image and saved, so you can return to them at any time, without physically returning to the measurement site.
What are the technical characteristics of the CAT S61?
If we are talking about the characteristics, the smartphone has a display with a diagonal of 5.2 inches and a resolution of Full HD, that is, 1920 × 1080 pixels (424 ppi). The screen can be operated with wet fingers and gloves. The panel is covered with glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The heart of the device is the eight core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 2.2 GHz (8x ARM Cortex-A53, 14-nm) graphics chip Adreno 508. On board this model, you will also find 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory with the ability to expand using a microSD card and camera: the main one at 16 megapixels with the ability to record video in 4K format and the front one at 8 megapixels.
CAT S61 is equipped with such modules: Bluetooth 5.0, two 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi display zones (with VoWiFi support), LTE (with VoLTE support), NFC and GPS. All components are running the Android Oreo operating system (the manufacturer promises to upgrade to Android P), and it draws energy from a 4500 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology. The case of the smartphone is waterproof (IP68), also meets the requirements of the military standard MIL Spec 810G (the device passed a series of drop tests on concrete from a height of 1.8 m).
CAT S61 will go on sale in the second quarter of 2018. Its recommended cost is – depending on the market – 899 euros / 799 pounds / 999 dollars.
